E-Safety

What parents need to know
E-safety plays a vital role in children’s education in today’s digital age and is fully embedded within learning across the school. We are also committed to supporting both parents and pupils in developing a strong understanding of online safety, empowering them to use the internet and digital technologies responsibly, confidently and securely.
At Home
As a parent, you will be aware of how central the internet is to children’s lives. They use it to learn, play, socialise and express themselves, offering many creative and exciting opportunities. However, the digital world can sometimes feel overwhelming, and it is natural to have concerns about potential risks such as online bullying, contact from strangers, or exposure to inappropriate or harmful content.
Engaging with your children about how they use the internet at home is one of the most effective ways to support their online safety. Below are some suggested conversation starters adapted from www.childnet.com to help guide these discussions:
Ask your children to talk about the websites and apps they enjoy using and what they like to do online.
Discuss how they keep themselves safe online.
What advice would they give you? Where did they learn these safety tips?
Talk together about what information is safe and unsafe to share.
Ask if they know where to seek help online, how to find safety advice, adjust privacy settings, and report or block users on the platforms they use.
Encourage them to support others. They might enjoy showing you new digital skills or helping a friend who could benefit from their guidance.
Reflect on how your family uses the internet together.
Consider ways to make the most of online activities and enjoy the digital world safely as a family.
Open communication and shared learning can help create a positive, safe and confident online experience for everyone.
At School
As part of your child’s curriculum and the development of their computing skills, internet access is provided only during lessons that are fully supervised by a teacher.
We recognise that the internet and email are valuable and essential tools for learning and development in the modern world, and they play an important role in preparing children for the future.
At the same time, we are mindful of the potential risks associated with online access. To safeguard pupils, the school has implemented robust measures to reduce exposure to unsuitable content.
Our internet service provider uses a secure filtering system that blocks access to inappropriate and harmful materials.
At the beginning of each academic year, online safety is discussed within every class.
Pupils learn about how to stay safe on the internet and the potential dangers they may encounter online.
